Backups are critical for
minimizing the risk of data loss. This is especially important in the
case of shared databases, where the risk of corruption or accidental
deletion is higher. KP-Backup's timestamp feature makes it easier to
restore a backup from a particular date in cases where databases are
modified frequently.
- How can I find out which version of Java is installed?
Please follow the
instructions below. Windows
- Start a Command Prompt via:
"Start" → "Programs" → "Accessories" → "Command
prompt"
- Type "java -version" and press Enter.
- The
installed java version information will be displayed.
Mac OS X
- Start
a Terminal via: "/Applications/Utilities/Terminal"
- Type
"java -version" and press Return.
- The installed
java version information will be displayed.
- Does KP-Backup support FileMaker Pro?
No, unfortunately KP-Backup does not
support FileMaker Pro.
- Does
KP-Backup support Linux?
Not at the present time. If FileMaker releases
an updated Linux edition we will consider supporting it.
- Does a user have to be logged in for
KP-Backup to operate?
No, it is not necessary for a user to
be logged in. Backups are performed by a background service which
starts automatically when you start your computer. The backup will
start as long as your computer is on at the scheduled backup time.
- When the "Append Timestamp" option is
enabled, and the source is a single database file, the
resulting backed up file has a different icon, and the OS does not
recognize it as a FileMaker database. Why is that?
This is because the extension of the
file has changed. E.g. "KP-BACKUP.FP7_200601011200". If you wish to use
this file, edit the filename to remove the timestamp and it will be the
identical to the original file. (E.g "KP-BACKUP.FP7".)
- Why
are the 29th, 30th and 31st dates not available for monthly schedules?
These dates are not selectable because
of the varying number of days in a month. If you wish to schedule a
backup for the last day of a month, please choose the "Last Day" option.
- I
have downloaded the trial version. Why are backups not working?
Please ensure that you have correctly
entered your trial license key. The trial license allows full
functionality for a limited period of time.
- Why am I not receiving email alerts?
Please ensure that your SMTP mail
server allows email messages to be sent from the computer on which
KP-backup is installed.
